Who we are.

We are a social enterprise organisation based in the United Kingdom with a broad range of experience in building organisational capability to effectively manage disasters. Through our partner-ship network in the United Kingdom and across Africa, we can equip any organisation with the tools they need to reduce the impacts of disaster and to respond and recover quickly and effectively.

We help UK based emergency services and International Humanitarian organisations to build their capacity in planning and responding to Major disasters  in the UK and Africa.

Our experts have personal experience of the human, social and economic devastation of disasters and conflict particularly in  Africa. Therefore, we passionately believe in improving the welfare of the people and environment in Africa. Amoros Ruhumliza

Director

Amoros Ruhumuliza is a holder of a master’s degree in Conflict Governance and International Development from the University of East Anglia (UK), and of a BSc Honours degree in Disaster Reconstruction and Development from Coventry University (UK).

Amoros Ruhumuliza is currently an established professional trainer in Leadership Management Skills designed towards the management of a major incident crisis. He provides expert consultant’s services to a variety of emergency service – based organizations based not only in the UK but across the world, with a special focus on Africa.  

In the past, he has worked for a number of organizations providing critical social care and support services to the British communities as a whole. Among others, he worked for the British Red Cross in Norwich, the Norfolk Centre for Social Development in Norwich and for the Norfolk Safety Community Interest Company. Furthermore, he worked for the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in the transport and logistics sector.

Mr Amoros Ruhumuliza therefore possesses established expert knowledge as well as technical skills in the field of emergency crisis management gained through numerous years of training, field practice and exposure on field.

Davis Waldo

 Consultant 

Waldo possesses more than 8 – years work experience in the area of Business Continuity Management, Organizational Crisis Management and Emergency Planning. He acquired most of his work experience predominantly in the Telecommunications Sector as well as the Local Public Authorities in the UK.

Currently, he is responsible for managing Business Continuity operations in Europe and the US and China for a global telecommunications provider

More About Waldo
He worked closely with UK Emergency Services to plan for and respond to a range of public emergencies. He worked in operational emergency planning for the London 2012 Olympics. Waldo has completed a Bachelors Degree in Disaster Management and Emergency Planning from Coventry University, UK.

Renske van der Wal

Consultant

 

Renske van der Wal holds a MA in International Relations and Development from the University of East Anglia in the UK, as well as a BA in Language and Culture Studies from Utrecht University in the Netherlands.

Renske currently works as a researcher and consultant for our organization, focusing on the overlap between sustainable development and disaster risk reduction strategies. Further areas of research include innovation in disaster managment and international guidelines. In addition, she is a writer and editor of policy and strategy documentation. Renske is also an advisor on general sustainability measures and waste management systems in the context of emergency planning, response and recovery.

Renske has got varied professional experience in the field of Humanitarian Affairs. Through her work in India, Nepal and Ethiopia, she developed a broad understanding of developmental contexts, challenges and difficulties concerning disasters. She worked to promote sustainable waste management practices in various communities. These experiences taught her about the distance between global goals such as sustainabilitiy and resilience, and local capacity, priorities and challenges. Continuing in this vein, she worked as Policy Officer of Humanitarian Affairs on the humanitarian and political portfolio for the Embassy of the Netherlands in Ehiopia.

As part of ACDM, Renske is the resource focal person for sustainability, resilience and disaster preparedness in a developmental context. She is also the advisor for alignement to international standards such as the Sendai framework.

Renske also has varied experience working with waste management NGOs, networks, and social entrepreneurial ventures in India, Nepal, Belgium (Brussels) and the Netherlands.

  • Organisational support with varied experience in writing and editing, concept development and social media outreach.

Mackie Sheik

Senior Consultant 

Mackie holds a degree in Youth and Community development and a master’s degree in Public Service Management. Mackie is a native of Sierra Leone. 

Mackie spent the bulk of his professional career in the public sector of which he can be said to be a senior expert. His accumulated work experience enables him easily navigate through and fix the classic issues pertaining to the public management sector. Efficient management of public finances such as planning and infrastructure resource allocation and spending, public relations and forging strategic partnerships between key involved partners are those critical areas closely intertwined with the overall effectiveness of any emergency crisis management for most organizations. Mr. Mackie is therefore one critical resource that provides our organization with the needed expertise and guidance when collaborating with institutions involved in emergency disaster management.

His input is specifically valuable in developing effective collaboration, public relations and partnerships with public services implementing disaster planning, management and recovery in Africa. 

Mackie is a special asset, adding value to our organization for he is the former deputy Mayor of London Borough of Southwark and an awards winning community champion.

Liliane Binego

Senior Consultant 

Liliane Binego (LB) is researcher and consultant in crisis response and stabilisation, and holds a master’s degree in Disaster Management and Emergency Planning from Coventry University (UK).

LB possesses more than 20 years’ work experience in the area of crisis response and stabilisation acquired most predominantly in organisational crisis management and capacity building at local and global level.

Currently, LB is also a researcher at Coventry University
